  1. My August Block for the Crazy Quilt Journal Project 2018 (CQJP) is a bit different from the other blocks I have done for the CQJP. I wanted to create a late summer flower garden. I included the Robin again because I see them every day. There are a couple of them roosting in the roof peak of our garage. To create this block, I used a Lace Kit from Nicki Lee’s Raviolee Dreams at Etsy.com.
I loved how Nicki Lee originally arranged the laces. I followed her design and placed them on my block in the same way. I placed a few of the charms and flower beads slightly differently because of the birdhouse and the flying Robin. The birdhouse is appliqued felted woven wool. I added a variety of beads and a dragonfly charm.
I used a couple of techniques I hadn’t tried before for the top corners. I appliqued rick-rack over the top left seam. Then I embroidered a Chain Stich in a zig-zag pattern on top of the rick-rack. I worked a cluster of roses in the left top corner.
For the right top corner, I appliqued Venetian flower lace over the seam and added Fargo roses with leaves. In the corner is a Moon face bead surrounded by navy glass beads.
